3 Guide To AntiAging Hair Care

As we age, it seems like bad hair days are more frequent. The shiny, thick hair from our 20s has turned gray and thin. Most of us dream of turning back time—or at the very least we try to find a secret formula that will stop the grays and make our locks look strong and healthy.
But, as we know, no secret formula exists. However, there are ways to change your hair-care routine to better nourish and strengthen aging hair.

Make It Shine
Shiny, healthy hair is a sign of youth. Finding the right product that enhances the gloss of your hair is important for your daily hair-care routine. Nexxus Youth Renewal products combat dryness and brittleness and help replenish and revitalize damaged hair.

Cover Gray
Covering gray hair is a constant battle. Besides coloring your hair and using an anti-fade shampoo, find a hairstyle that doesn’t part in the middle—that’s where the roots are constantly visible.

Style Safely
Your hairstyle can easily make you look older, so when styling, make sure your hair complements your best facial features. Remember: Hair that’s pulled back too tightly brings out the lines in your face. To keep your hair loose and soft, blow-drying with the right products can help you achieve the look. Nexxus Youth Renewal Blow Dry Spray is infused with vitamins that help build thicker-looking hair while also fighting frizz.

To Live Longer, Take It Easy

I want to live longer and help others do the same. I assumed the most effective way to do that is by understanding the science of aging and then engineering solutions to extend human lifespan. That is why I became a biomedical researcher and over the past several years I have pursued this goal almost single-mindedly.
women life
When a 2004 study showed that reducing the calorie intake in mice extended their life by 42%, I enthusiastically embraced the results and even put myself on a calorie restricted diet. But, subsequently, a 2012 study showed that long-term calorie restriction may not have the promised benefits. On the contrary, fewer calories without the required nutrients might actually cause harm.
Calorie restriction is not the first such “promising” route that eventually did not live up to the promise, and it will not be the last. Antioxidants showed promise in holding back diseases caused by aging, but now we know that antioxidant supplements are more likely to shorten your life.

Earlier in May, researchers showed that reducing a protein called NF-kB in mouse brains modestly improved their lifespan. I am not holding out for this result either. Before too long, I’m sure there will be reports of severe side effects of manipulating levels of NF-kB.

TO LIVE LONGER, TAKE IT EASY
Looking at the data I have come to the conclusion that “doing nothing” may be the best option in most cases. This may not be as pessimistic as it sounds and it is definitely not to say that research in fighting aging must not be carried out.
When I say “do nothing”, I am assuming that you do not smoke or drink too much alcohol, and have access to medical care in case of injury. Such measures are bound to increase your lifespan.
But currently, not intervening in the aging process is more likely to help you live longer than trying any of the methods I’ve mentioned, not by a few months but by many years. Trying any of those interventions may actually cause harm, and will do so for the foreseeable future.
life survival

LESSON ABOUT AGING FROM THE PAST
The chart above shows the survival rates – the percentage of the population that lives to a certain age – for men in England and Wales from 1860 to 2010.
In the 1860s, more than 20% of children died at birth or soon after. On average, men’s health started to decline around the age of 30, and only about 20% of the population survived for more than 70 years.
By 1910, child mortality decreased, thanks to improvements in hygiene and better medical care. This meant more men lived past the age of 50. Circle A shows this reduction in childhood mortality between 1860 and 2010. But, as can be seen from Circle D, the gain towards the end was not significant. This is because only 30% of males passed the age of 70.

Fifty years later, after the discovery of penicillin and invention of more vaccines, 90% of English and Welsh men lived until 50, and more than half survived to 70. Arrow B marks this trend.
Today almost 80% of men live to the age of 70. Four times as many men reach 70 now than in 1860.
What accounts for the change? Between 1860 and 1960, the significant increase in survival rate was due to medical intervention. Since 1960, the survival curve has improved mainly due to reduction in smoking.
This trend is similar in many rich countries, including the US. Druin Burch, a physician and writer, says in his book Taking the Medicine, that eliminating smoking would provide more benefits than being able to cure people of every possible type of cancer.

AGE GRACEFULLY
Many experts believe that human lifespan might actually have an upper limit of 125 years. The average may not increase much beyond 90. If we are to agree with them, this leaves little room for improvement.

But we have never concentrated on maximizing human lifespan before. Most people believe human lifespan is finite, so all drugs being manufactured today are targeted towards certain age-related diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. They are not designed to extend human lifespan.
If this bleak outlook is indeed true, we should not practice naive interventionism because it is unlikely to help. As Nassim Nicholas Taleb describes in his book Antifragile, naive interventionism occurs when we try to fix a single thing, but end up disturbing a complex system.

In case of extending human lifespan, those naive interventions would include calorie restriction, antioxidant supplements or manipulating the protein NF-kB, as mentioned earlier. They also include the current obsession with replacing fat in foods with sugar, the health benefits of drinking red wine, or the use of surgery or supplements to “fight” aging. This latter industry has grown in the past decade from being non-existent to an estimated worth of $88 billion today.
If intervening in the aging process with current biomedical science has any positive effect at all, it will be far too small to worry about. It’s far more likely to harm us.

That is why I have decided to do nothing and follow a simple rule: unless I meet with an accident, or suffer from a terminal disease, I will not add anything to my life with the explicit purpose of extending it. To do anything else would most likely do more harm than good.

10 Biggest Hair Care Mistakes, Must Know !

If you want shiny, gorgeous hair—and, really, who doesn’t?—then you should pay close attention to how you treat your strands. How you wash, dry, and style can seriously affect the health and appearance of your locks. Are you making these hair care mistakes?

hair care mistake
1. Not Brushing Before Washing
A damage double-whammy: Hair is weakest when it’s wet, and wet hair is more prone to tangling. To prevent shower-induced snarls, give your hair a brush before hopping in. If you like to comb in the shower, apply conditioner, untangle strands with your fingers, then use a wide-toothed comb before rinsing.

2. Brushing the Ends Only
You’ve heard that brushing too much causes breakage, but your scalp’s natural oils are one of the best conditioners out there. Massage your scalp with a wooden-bristle brush like Widu to stimulate circulation and hair growth and brush from roots to ends to add luster naturally.

3. Being a Clean Freak
Most heads of hair don’t benefit from daily washing. Chronic washing strips your scalp of healthy oils, leaving your hair lackluster and lifeless. By all means, shower daily, but if you don’t use a ton of styling products, try just rinsing hair with water or using a light, volumizing conditioner every other day.

4. Haphazard Conditioning
We’ve heard to condition only the ends to prevent flat, weighed-down tresses, but fine-haired gals should condition their roots as well since their hair is more susceptible to breakage. Over conditioning is another common snafu. Use just enough to untangle snags and save serious slathering for a once-a-week deep treatment or hair masque like Zerran’s Hair Redemption or DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque. No matter how you condition, be sure to rinse until the water runs clear and use a clarifying shampoo from time to time to prevent residue build-up.

5. Intense Towel Drying
Most styling products direct you to use them on towel-dried hair, but rubbing hair too much will roughen up the cuticle, leading to dull hair, frizz, and breakage. Blot hair with a towel and shake out the strands with your fingers. Your hair will take longer to dry, but it will be healthier in the long run.

6. Skipping Heat Protection
We all know that heat is one of the most damaging elements to hair. But if you don’t want to live without blow-drying, curling, or flattening, always, always use a heat-protective aid to shield strands and smooth cuticles. I like Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum. Before blow-drying, let hair air dry until just damp (use your fingers to shake out hair to speed the process) and opt for the warm setting instead of hot to avoid habitual heat damage.

7. Using Hot Irons on Damp Hair
Wet hair and hot tools don’t mix. Curling and flat irons can burn the follicles of damp strands, leading to weak and broken tresses. Hair should be completely dry before heat styling, period. Even when you’re in a rush.

8. Using Hairspray Before Styling
Ever hear a sizzle when curling or straightening hair that has hairspray in it? Alcohols in hairspray burn on contact with heat. Always use hairspray AFTER curling or ironing.

9. Teasing with Abandon
For the occasional va-va-voom, back-combing hair toward the root to amp up volume is a celebrated trick. But teasing regularly will damage hair cuticles and lead to breakage. To get the dimension without the damage, try Giovanni Root 66 Directional Root Lifting Spray and blow dry for natural, non-sticky volume.

10. Thinking You Can Mend Split Ends
Sorry ladies: Once hair has split at the ends, there’s no product that can mend it. The only solution for split ends is to prevent them in the first place (e.g. avoiding over-washing, rigorous towel drying, and abusing heat tools)—or to get a trim. For a temporary way to minimize visibly broken bottoms, try using a product with beeswax or a serum with argan oil on the ends to smooth splits.

Create Eyebrow Shape With Celebrity Style

Your perfect eyebrows depend on the dimensions of your face shape, and the right arches can not only emphasize your eyes and make you look younger, they can even let you get away with wearing less makeup.
“The right brow will help open up the entire eye area and work to improve the face’s overall symmetry,” says celebrity eyebrow stylist Joey Healy (Kyra Sedgwick is a client). “The perfect brow will make you look fresh, rested, young, healthy, and overall, more attractive.” Do we have your attention yet?
So how do you go about achieving this Holy Grail of facial features? For starters, your unique face shape plays a role in determining which eyebrow shape works best for you. We asked Healy to break down the best brows for a range of different face shapes, so you can find your own golden arches.

Diane Kruger Eyebrow shape (Square Fac)
diane kruger eyebrow shape
A square jaw accents the angularity of your face, so softly rounded brows are the way to go. “Make sure your brows are not too angular,” says Healy. “But beware of making brows appear too round; you don’t want to over pluck and create rainbow-shaped brows!”

Mindy Kaling Eyebrow Shape (Round Face)
mindy kaling eyebrow shape

“If your face is round you want to make sure your brows are very angular,” Healy advises. “Because there is a lack of definition in a rounder face, the perfect angled brow can bring out and define facial bone structure that is lacking or not present.” For round faces, a higher arch is flattering.

Liv Tyler Eyebrow Shape (Long Face)
liv tyler eyebrow shape

“A long face is characterized by features that are vertically stretched out,” Healy explains. “In this case, it is important to extend the tails of your brows east-to-west to really play up horizontal features.”
“I always suggest that the tails of brows extend beyond the corner of the eye, but a long face should make it a point for tails to extend a bit longer. It is important to beware when sculpting the tail, however, as allowing it out too far will drag the eye down and make it appear droopy.”

Julianne Hough Eyebrow Shape (Heart Face)
heart eyebrow shape julianne hough

Sorry, aspiring Cara Delevingnes. “Although bold brows are in this season, a heart shaped face will definitely want to steer shy of this trend,” Healy says. “ Because of the petite jaw line and emphasis on the upper portion of the face, it is important to keep brows well-manicured and exceptionally groomed.”
“That being said, a thin brow is never in! The idea here is to create a shape that is controlled and never bushy. This tight brow on the top hemisphere of the face will serve to balance the smaller chin and jawline of the bottom half.”

Jessica Alba Eyebrow Shape (Oval Face)

A classic, balanced brow is perfect for this well-proportioned face shape. Just make sure you follow Healy’s three rules for all face shapes (see below).

All Face Shapes
No matter what face shape you have, there are three golden rules to follow when it comes to your brows, according to Healy.
1. The head of the brow should begin at the bridge of your nose. “This point can be easily found by vertically holding a pencil up to either side of your nose bone.”
2. The arch of your eyebrows should be about two-thirds of the way out, Healy says. “One of the biggest mistakes I see day to day is a centered arch. This gives the dreaded ‘rainbow’ shape!”
3. Don’t cut your brows short. “The tail should, at the very least, end on an imaginary line from the corner of the nose to the corner of the eye,” Healy says. “You can allow it to extend slightly further as long as that tail doesn’t end lower than where the head begins (this can make the eyes look droopy). Make sure your tails always taper to a crisp point to best lift the eye.”

5 CommonYoga Mistakes, Must Know

Shoulders aligned with wrists, knees aligned with hips, chin towards chest, chest towards thighs... so many things to remember! It can be overwhelming trying to master all of the intricacies that go along with each and every pose. Thankfully, that’s what instructors are here for!
Often I notice that students, both new and old, get a little nervous or self-conscious when I or another instructor try to correct their pose. And I totally get it, I’ve been there too! I used to get embarrassed when my yoga teacher would assist me during class, and you'd better bet I avoided eye contact at all costs when I saw he or she headed in my direction. I mean, let’s be honest, no one wants to be singled out in class for doing something wrong.

But what I’ve come to learn during my own practice, and what I try to teach my students now, is that it’s impossible to learn, grow and improve without a little help. From one yogi to another, here’s some advice: Never fear correction, never be embarrassed to receive help, never turn down help and always embrace challenges. So the next time you spot your yoga instructor heading in your direction, don’t hide in child’s pose, stand proud in that not-quite-so-perfect down dog of yours and welcome the opportunity to not only better your practice, but better yourself.
And on that note, here are some tips on how to correct some of the most common yoga mistakes.
  1. Down dog
    • Bad dog
      yoga dog

Rounding the back, taking too short of a stance between your hands and feet, remaining on the tippy-toes and not reaching the back heels toward the floor.
    • Tame that dog
      yoga Tame that dog
Make sure you have a good distance between your hands and feet. Your ankles and heels want to be reaching as close to the ground as you can get them, with the ultimate objective to get those feet flat on the ground. It is also extremely important to push your chest in toward the tops of your thighs while keeping your gaze toward your legs as well. This is what creates the nice flat back, as opposed to the rounded back in the first photo.
  2. Plank pose
    • Wrong way
      yoga plank pose

Once again, rounding the spine too much in this pose defeats the objective, as does lowering the hips too far to the ground and creating an arch in the spine.
    • Right way
      yoga plank

The secret to plank pose is engaging your core! Keeping those abs nice and tight, try to create as straight a line as possible with your body by lowering those hips so that they are even with your back and spine. Also make sure that your wrists are directly in line under your shoulders and you’re on top of your toes, with your heels lifted toward the sky. Your gaze should be a little in front of your fingertips so that your head is in line with the rest of your body.
  3. Cobra
    • Fear it
      yoga cobra

Shoulders are lifted toward the ears, creating tension in the neck and spine, and toes are curled under, as opposed to flat on the floor.
    • Fix it
      yoga right cobra

Press the tops of the feet firmly into the ground and really lengthen the legs out behind you. Planting your palms into the ground, one to two inches behind your chest bones, lift your chin and chest off the ground, keeping a slight bend in the elbows so you're not hyperextended, and pressing the shoulders toward the floor, creating more space between your head and body. Keep your gaze lifted toward the sky.
  4. Warrior 2
    • Weak warrior
      yoga warrior pose

Not enough space between legs in the stance and not enough bend in the front knee to get the most benefits out of this pose. Shoulders are also lifted toward the ears, creating tension in the neck.
    • Strong warrior
      yoga warrior

Standing with a good distance between your front and back leg, create a deep bend in your front knee, while still pushing through the back foot so that it remains flat on the floor. Make sure that your ankle is in line with your knee so that it is creating a straight line, as opposed to being too far in front of or behind your ankle. Keeping the bend in your front knee, extend your arms in opposite directions, following your legs. Lower your shoulders and press through those fingertips, keeping your gaze over your front hand and creating a strong, powerful stance.
  5. TREE POSE
    • Broken branches
      yoga tree pose branches

Resting your foot on your kneecap is the No. 1 no-no of tree pose. Avoid breaking that branch by placing your foot above or below that knee.
    • Solid tree trunk
      yoga tree pose

Pressing into your supporting leg, begin by bringing your opposite knee into your chest. Once you have your balance, allow your knee to turn out to the side and rest the bottom of your foot above your knee on the inside of your upper thigh or below your knee on the inside of your calf. Continuing a steady breath to help focus your mind and body, bring your hands to a prayer position at your heart, or experiment a little by raising them toward the sky, creating branches with your arms.

Best Makeup Tips For Blue Eyes

Do you have eyes with blue color,  the right makeup should enhance the natural blue of your eyes, not overpower or deter from the color. Whether you are headed to work or a special night out, follow these simple makeup tips for blue eyes.
Best Makeup For Women With Blue Eyes

Best Makeup For Women With Blue Eyes

Pick the right eyeshadow

For the office, stick with eyeshadow in brown, rose, terracotta and neutral shades. Embrace the idea of purple eyeshadow to really accentuate the color of your eyes. Lavender works for daytime, while deep plum is a wonderful option for evening. For a special night out, blue-eyed women also can try metallics (both silver and gold work well), turquoise and icy pink.

Go for the smoky look

For evening, dark blue mascara looks fabulous on blue eyes, especially when paired with smudged charcoal eyeliner. Try smoky eye makeup using charcoal gray or purple shadow.
"For blue eyes, choose dark blue (the dark blue tones can help to bring out the natural blue tones in your eyes), gray, silver, violet or lavender," says SheKnows beauty expert Nina Sutton. "For night time, blue combined with black is a great look. For eyeliner or mascara, try navy instead of black for a dramatic, yet less intense look," she says.

Wing it!

Cat-eye or winged eyeliner looks awesome with blue eyes. Winged liner puts all the focus on your baby blues, and looks terrific in any shade — from black to turquoise and violet to orange... yes, orange liner. A subtle, barely-winged look will work for everyday wear. But for special occasions, get dramatic with a thicker, more exaggerated line.

Tone down your lips

Emphasize your gorgeous blue eyes, whether they are pale blue or deep sapphire, by toning down your lip color. Pick a matte lipstick in a peachy brown shade or a pale pink. Bright or dark lip color will take the focus off your peepers. For your cheeks, add a light sweep of blush in a very natural hue.

Determine Eyeglass Frames That Fit Your Face

beautiful women using eyeglass
Before you of buying eyeglasses, there are a few things you should know to choose eyeglasses that fit, do you know how to find the perfect frames for your face? One method called the Moscot method may help. Here's a few considerations.

FACE SHAPE
There are seven basic face shapes: oval, round, heart, oblong, triangle, square and diamond.
You should select frames that offset the shape of the face with the frame. For example, instead of a round frame on a round face, select an angular or rectangular frame.

While our duty is to suggest what looks best based on face shape, ultimately we want customers to be happy so be sensitive to what they think looks best on them. Don't be afraid to vocalize what is best for them based on prescription, skin color, face shape and other factors.

The following are general guidelines for identifying face shape and choosing appropriate styles:
  • Oval: Top and bottom of face are well balanced; suggest any style except extreme geometric designs.
  • Round: Large curved forehead and rounded chin, face is full without angles; suggest square or angular frames.
  • Heart: Forehead is widest part of face that narrows gradually to slightly pointed chin; suggest rimless design.
  • Oblong/rectangular: Long narrow face; suggest deep fitting frame from top to bottom or a frame with deep B measurement.
  • Triangle: Narrow head, face gradually becomes fuller at cheeks and chin -- rimless designs.
  • Square: Wide forehead cheeks and chin where jaw is angular in appearance -- hard jaw line -- round frames.
  • Diamond: Small forehead, wide temple that gradually decreases to a small chin area -- oval or avoid angular.

FIT
Make sure eyes are centered in the frame. This is the most important factor in choosing a frame especially with strong prescriptions and progressive lenses. Regardless of lens material, if the eye is properly centered, the lenses will come out thinner. (least amount of decentration = less lens edge thickness Make sure temples are long enough so that they can be adjusted properly.

Short temples look horrible and will cause unwanted tilt and thus alter the way one sees through their glasses. Short temples or ill-adjusted temples are the sign of a bad optician, so be super sensitive to this.
Assess size of nose to see if a large or narrow bridge is best. Use large bridge for wide noses or a narrow bridge (generally with nose pads) for narrower noses to ensure proper fit.

Certain bridges can enhance or draw attention away from a large nose. Frames that fit close to a large nose will minimize the size and focus attention to the frame. The idea is to limit the amount of space from the bridge of the nose to the bridge of the frame. The more space left between (frame and nose) will make a nose even appear larger than it already is! Metal frames work a bit better in some cases and as a plastic frame can give the appearance it's attached to the nose and might actually come off with the glasses! (Think Groucho Marx.)

A narrow/small frame bridge on a large nose will push the frame up on the face and prevent the wearer from looking through the centers of the lenses, cause terrible marks on the nose and look horrible.

Small or narrow noses require small bridges. If a frame bridge is too large for a nose it will leave a horrible mark on the top of a person's bridge. If it is metal it could even cut the skin.
Remember that nose pads can be mounted onto plastic frames to achieve a better overall fit. For example, if someone has a flat nose and the frame is resting on their checks, adding nose pads can be the perfect solution.

If necessary, make some minor adjustments to a frame during the final selection to give the customer a better idea of how the frame will fit.
When selecting frames that will accommodate progressive lenses, you must ensure that the minimum height requirement needed for progressive lenses is met. Always consult with an optician if you are unsure. Often times adjustments can be made to the frame (e.g. opening the bridge, changing the angle) or altering the add power of the RX that will allow it to work with a progressive lens.

Find Sunglasses Suit Your Face Shape

Just like finding the best romantic match, picking the perfect pair of sunglasses follows the same rule of thumb 'Opposites Attract', says eyewear expert Blake Kuwahara, owner of Focus Group West Eyewear Consultancy in Los Angeles. Here, he and other eyewear experts offer advice for common face shapes.
sunglasses for your face shape

How To Determine Sunglasses That Fit With Your Shape Face

in order fit and beautiful glasses can be used, we should adjust to the shape of your face, read here how to determine your face shape
  • Determine Sunglasses for Round face Shape

In order to play down the fullness of a round face, select frames that have straight or angular lines. Rectangles are a safe and fashionable bet. Deep colors like black and tortoise shell can also help to visually balance your face.
  • Determine Sunglasses for Square face

Complement a square face with frames that are more oval or round. The Jackie O style or an aviator shape are good picks. Make sure that the top of the frame sits high enough on the face to downplay the jaw line.
  • Determine Sunglasses for Triangular face

This shaped face is defined by a broad forehead and a narrow mouth and chin. Frames with a thin rim and vertical lines will help balance the bottom portion of the face. Frames shouldn't sit too high on the face; otherwise, they'll accentuate the forehead.
  • Determine Sunglasses for Oval face

If you fit into this group, you're lucky because almost any shape looks good on you. Just make sure that the size of the frame is in proportion to your face.
  • Determine Sunglasses for Heart-shaped face

Sunglasses that are too wide can make chins look pointy if you have a heart-shaped face. The Sunglasses Shop says that aviators are a good, more narrow style choice that will accentuate your face shape the best way.
  • Determine Sunglasses for Small face

Small faces can still pull off oversized sunglasses but should steer clear of thick frames, according to The Sunglasses Shop website.
  • Determine Sunglasses for Long face

Long faces work best with rectangular frames, which add width and help balance out the face's length. Sunglasses with a low bridge may help shorten the length of your nose.

Factor in your skin tone

Face shapes aren't the only deciding factor when choosing sunglasses. The color of your shades is also important and depends on your complexion, according to United Shades.
  • Pale skin

Fair skin works best with lightweight frames or those with a touch of color like rose or amber. Tortoiseshell frames suit light skin, but you should avoid darker versions. Clear, blue or green frames can drain color from cheeks.
  • Dark skin

Golden or Asian skin works best with silver, gold or clear frames. Avoid black because it can be too heavy.
  • Dark/African American skin

Metallic and amber frames suit dark complexions. Black frames can be risky, United Shades says.

Other things to keep in mind, according to The Sunglasses Shop:

  • Rimless sunglasses and aviators fit most face shapes.
  • Your eye should be positioned in the middle of the lens, both horizontally and vertically.
  • Your sunglasses should not be so small that your eyebrows are visible above the frames.
  • The edge of the frame should be slightly wider than the widest part of your face.

Tips How to Determine Your Face Shape ?

What is your face shape? Did you know that there are 6 basic face shapes? Determining your face shape will help you decide what new hairstyle to try out, how to groom your eyebrows, even when buying a new pair of glasses.
Tips How to Determine Your Face Shape

Face Shapes

  1. Oval – Your forehead is slightly wider than your chin. The length of your face is roughly one and a half times the width.
  2. Round – The length and width of your face are about the same. Your cheeks are prominent.
  3. Oblong – Similar to the oval shape, but longer and less wide. The chin is also on the pointy side.
  4. Square – Your forehead and jaw line are the same width. Your jaw is the most prominent feature of your face.
  5. Heart – Your forehead and cheekbones are wider than your jaw line. You also have a pointy chin.
  6. Diamond – The cheekbones are your most prominent feature with your forehead and jaw line on the narrow side.

Determining Your Face Shape

First you want to stand in front of a mirror in a well-lit room. Pull your hair back in a ponytail or wear a headband. You really need to see your entire face to properly evaluate its shape. You may also want to have a tape measure handy for precise measurements and a pen and paper to jot down your responses.

Now look closely at your face and ask yourself a few questions. Using your hairline and jaw line as a reference, what is the general shape of your face: wide, average or narrow?

Next, picture an imaginary line going across the widest point of your forehead. Imagine a line going across your jaw line. Is your forehead wider than your jaw or vice versa? Are they the same width? To get an accurate reading, use the tape measure. At this point, you will also want to note if your cheekbones are a prominent feature of your face. Are your cheekbones the widest part of your face?

You also need to measure the length of your face and compare it to the width. Using your tape measure, measure from the middle of your hairline to the point of your chin.

Look at your chin. What is the general shape: round, square or pointy?
Once you've done these preliminary steps, you're ready to evaluate your results. Here are the six face shapes and their unique characteristics:

Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms

7 Signs of Type 2 Diabetes : The number of Americans with type 2 diabetes—21 million, including adults and children—has risen with the obesity epidemic.
Should you or you child get tested? Yes, if you have a family history of the disease and/or any of the following:
Diabetes Symptoms

1. You’re overweight.
Even being just 10 to 15 pounds overweight can increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. If your child is overweight, make sure his pediatrician tests him, because type 2 diabetes is on the rise in kids. The encouraging news is that losing just 5% to 7% of your body weight can reduce your risk of diabetes, according to research from the Diabetes Prevention Program. Testing usually involves screening your blood for high glucose (sugar) levels. If they’re too high, you could have either type 1 or type 2. (See box, right, for explanations of the two types.) Your doctor will most likely be able to sort it out based on your age and symptoms. In some cases, you may also need to see an endocrinologist (specialist).

2. You’re constantly running to the bathroom.
“If your body doesn’t make enough insulin [a hormone that carries glucose into your cells to give them energy],” which can happen with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, “glucose builds up in your bloodstream and comes out in your urine,” explains Janet Silverstein, MD, chief of pediatric endocrinology at the University of Florida. Because you’re urinating a lot, you’ll probably also be very thirsty and drinking more than usual.

3. Your vision is blurry.
High blood sugar levels cause glucose to build up in the lens of your eyes, making it harder for you to focus. This could mean that you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

4. You’re losing weight for no apparent reason.
This is usually a sign of type 1 diabetes, but it sometimes happens with type 2. When the body can’t make insulin, glucose (sugar) from food can’t be used by the body’s cells for energy or stored, says Dr. Silverstein. In addition, fat starts to break down, making you lose more weight

5. There’s a dark ring around your neck.
When your body starts pumping out too much insulin—which is common with type 2—receptors in the skin folds respond by making extra pigment, says Alyne Ricker, MD, pediatric endocrinologist at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston

6. You’re getting frequent yeast infections.
This can happen with type 1 or type 2, because a buildup of glucose can cause an overgrowth of yeast. Symptoms often include vaginal itching and thick discharge. Keep in mind that young children might instead get a diaper rash, and boys might get urethritis, a yeast infection of the urethra

7. You’re 45 or older.
Diabetes risk goes up with age, so the American Diabetes Association recommends getting screened at least every three years starting at age 45. Learn more at NDEP.nih.gov

tips to Losing Weight for Lazy People

Taking the step from just thinking about getting fit to actually doing it can, for some people, take a considerable amount of motivation. So, in the meantime, whilst you mull over the ways you could lose weight, here are three easy options to get you started.

1. WALKING
Walking is an effortless way to shed the pounds. If you’re guilty of spending too much time in front of the TV, or are a slave to your work desk, taking the odd walk could be a quick and easy means of getting you into shape.
A person who weighs 10st can burn approximately 100 calories per mile, so it’s well worth incorporating walking into your daily routine Regular walks not only help to reduce stress and increase energy levels, but they also work to tone those legs, bums and tums. Think you can handle it? Just little things, like taking the stairs instead of the lift, walking to work and nipping out during lunch, can make a tremendous difference

2. CUT OFF THE BAD STUFF
You know you have to, but sometimes the temptation’s just too much. Well, our advice is, ease yourself into dietary changes, as too much too soon will just encourage you to eat those unhealthy snacks even more.
First and foremost, try to curb the carbs. Contrary to popular belief, carbs are not bad for you. But if you eat them in excess, without the exercise to go with it, then this can cause you to put weight on. Simple carbohydrates such as white bread and fizzy drinks are ones to avoid, so try to replace them with healthy alternatives, such as brown rice and water.

3. MULTITASK
Multitasking is another great way to help you get into shape with minimal effort. What we’re suggesting is that on those occasions when you’re on the phone or just watching TV, aim to do some exercise.  Now we’re not implying that you invest in a cross trainer or a treadmill. There are plenty of cost effective ways in which you can achieve the level of fitness you want, all in the comfort of your own home.
Exercises to try out :
  • Shadow boxing: a fun means of toning those biceps (and channelling any aggression) is by shadow boxing. As you watch your favourite programme, simply punch the air (boxer style) for as long as possible. Regular bursts of this will definitely get your arms looking great.
  • Step calf raises: if you’re looking to tone your legs (especially lower legs) then step calf raises are a quick and easy exercise to incorporate into your daily routine. All you need to do, is stand on the edge of the bottom step of your stairs, hold on to the banister, and slowly raise and lower your heels, taking them as high and as low as they can go. Once you can feel those calves burning, you’ll know that it’s working!
  • Planking: back in the day, sit-ups were considered the core exercise to eliminate tummy fat. However, in more recent years, sit-ups/crunches have come under scrutiny for the issues they could potentially cause to your back. This is where planking comes in! Be it by lying on your side and lifting your legs in the air, or by lying on your front and really stretching those abs, planking is a safe (and lazy!) way to achieve a flat stomach.
