Not just as an addition to delicious cuisine, tomatoes can be called a depression medication.

Research involving a number of men and women aged 70 or more was found that among those who ate tomatoes two to six times a week had a 46% less likely to experience depression than those who only eat tomatoes less than once a week.


A team from China and Japan, led by Kaijun Niu from China’s Tianjin Medical University, wanted to investigate preliminary reports that lycopene might also promote psychological as well as physical health by reducing oxidative stress, or damage to healthy brain cells, the Journal of Affective Disorders reported.

The advantage is that it was not much gained from other vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, onions and squash.
